Fjord Norway – so much more than a nutshell!

For those that want to see the norwegian fjord landscape in just one day I can reccomend the most popular and well promoted tourist package in Norway:
"Norway in a nutshell". It is possible to combine it with a short stay at Eplet, prefarable at least two days.

But Eplet is mostly a travellers house for all those of you that has a bit of extra time than the average tourist and wants to get something more out of the spectacular norwegian fjords. You want to see more, experience more, learn more.

I am giving traveller advices to our guests all the time, and many people ask me If I could write a guidebook. I am not gonna do that, I prefare to keep these advices a little bit secret, for those that find this page. But on this page I share a bit of travel information.

Travel advice: Fjord Norway in one week – The complete solution!

This compact one-week trip is for those that want to experience as much as possible in just 7 days. The trip is not possible with car, I generally reccomend using public transportation in Norway. Remember that you need good batterycapacity for your camera and a lot of time afterwards to really consume this experience :)
 
Day 1. Oslo- Flåm- Gudvangen- Bergen
Day 2. Bergen
Day 3. Express boat to the islands on the coast. Boat to Eplet
Day 4. Long blue ice walk. 4,5 horuse Glacier trip
Day 5. Bike trip and Unesco stave church
Day 6. Mountain trip with fantastic view and a swim in the fjord
Day 7. Solvorn-Oslo. Expresbus over Sognefjell to Otta. Train to Oslo.

This week program can start any week-day. Just check that day number 3 should not be on Saturday or Sunday. The trip is possible from 30/6-29/8 only.

Day 1. (basically a copy of norway in a nutshell...)
Train from Oslo 08:11 to Myrdal 12:53
Flåm Railway from Myrdal 13:00 to Flåm 13:50
Boat on Unesco Nærøyfjord from Flåm 15:10 to Gudvangen 17:20
Bus from Gudvangen 17:25 to Voss 18:20
Train from Voss 19:20 to Bergen 20:34
Stay in Bergen.

Day 2.
Stay in Bergen. Visit Unesco Bryggen with the hanseatic museum, the mountain Fløyen, and walk around in parts of the city with thousands of old small white wodden houses. The fishmarket is nothing special. Visit the tourist information, buy ticket for day3. Read guidebooks. Prepare yourself for the most spectacular fjord system in the world.

Day 3.
Island hopping in some of the most scenic coast region in Norway.
Expressboat from Bergen 08:00 to Krakhella 10:15
Local bus from Krakhella 10:15 to Hardbakke 10:50
Local postboat from Hardbakke 10:50 to Bulandet 13:30.
Bulandet consists of hundreds of island far out in the ocean and is called the venice of Norway. It is the westernmost settlement in the country.
Bus from Bulandet 15:55 to Værlandet 16:15.
Ferry from Værlandet 16:30 to Askvoll 17:30
Expressboat from Askvoll 17:40 to Sogndal 21:20
Local bus from Solvorn 22:20 to Solvorn 22:40
Stay at Eplet.

If you prefare a shorter day or if the weather is very bad or you are very sensitive to ocean waves, this is an alternative:  

Expressboat from Bergen 08:00 to Balestrand 11:50
Balestrand is a nice village with a lot of travel history.
Bus from Balestrand 15:55 to Sogndal 17:05
Bus from Sogndal 17:10 to Solvorn 17:30

Day 4.
Long blue ice walk on Nigardsbreen, Jostedal. .
Glacier shuttle bus from Solvorn 09:05 to Glacier center 10:10
12:15 Glacier trip 4,5 hours.
Glacier shuttle bus from Glacier center at 17:00 to Solvorn 18:15

Day 5.
Bike trip and Unesco stave church.
Ferry from Solvorn at 10:00 to Urnes 10:20.
Bike 13 km on the romantic road to Feigumsfossen, second highest waterfall in Norway. Visit Unesco Urnes stave church
Ferry from Urnes at 16:30 to Solvorn 16:50

Day 6.
Mountain trip with fantastic view and a swim in the fjord
Bike from Solvorn to Molden parking.
Walk up on the mountain. Enjoy one of the most perfect view from a mountain in Norway. 
Return to solvorn at 17:00.

Day 7.
Return over the highest mountainpass in scandinavia.
Expressbus from Solvorn 08:30 to Turtagrø 10:10
Have a walk around at Turtagrø, the most famous climbing hotel in Norway. Sognefjellet is the roof of Norway.
Expressbus from Turtagrø 15:25 to Otta 18:05.
Train from Otta 18:34 to Oslo 22:12
