Hostel & Guesthouse at the head of Sognefjord, Western Norway

Eplet Bed & Apple - Hidden Pearl & Base Camp

  Activities:

Norway is a great country to travel with public transportation.

Eplet is located in the heart of southern Norway, and I highly reccomend you to come here with public transportation. But Norwegian timetables are difficult to read, both for their complexity, unlogical exceptions and lack of english.

To make it easier, you
will here find the "how to get to Eplet the easy way" and the whole Eplet timetable 2010

For those of you that want to read the original timetables you will find a link to them on:

Fjord1    Busses, ferries, boats and expressboats
NSB       Train

To be able to read the tables - A short Guide:

Dato from-to     Time when the service operates. Winter and summer routes.
d                     daily
dx6                  daily except saturday
dx67                daily except saturday and sunday
6                     Only saturday
Small numbers  Indicates often that you must call to order the service

How to get to/ from Sogndal:

From Sogndal you take local bus to Solvorn. It runs a few times day, but less in the weekends. 20 min, cost 42 NOK. Ask the bus driver to let you off at Eplet in Solvorn. The village has only 200 habitants and the hostel is impossible not to find.

I can also pick you up in Sogndal for 100 NOK pro person. Need to be booked one day in advance, tel: + 47 41649469.

If you leave for the morning express boat from Sogndal to Bergen at 0705 you need to take a taxi from solvorn at 0630 to sogndal. We have a special price for the taxi at 350 NOK on weekdays, 450 NOK on saturdays and 470 NOK on sundays.

You should know this about public transportation:

1. There is a large network with expressbusses that covers all bigger roads in Norway. From Oslo to Sogndal near Solvorn there are 4 busses each day, from Bergen there are 6.

2. You always pay to the driver on the bus. You never book in advance. You have seat guarantee, which means that if th bus is full they will put up a new one.

3. Bus servives are often very much poorer in weekends. Try not to travel long and complicated stretches on saturday and sundays. In Solvorn there are only the glacier bus on saturdays. Outside summer season we have no busses at all on saturdays.

4. Price level is comparable with other countries in northern Europe. Some of our guests has claimed that they find it cheaper then England and Germany. Student discounts are normally 25 %. The express boat from Bergen to Sogndal offers 50 % student discount. Be aware that you pay for the amounth of kilometers, and because of the geography the distance may be much longer than it looks on the map. All bus companies charge the same amounth pro kilometer, Norway is well regulated. Tourist routes in summer charge the same as a normal route.

5. In Solvorn we have several extra tourist routes in summer, but before 15th june and after 15th september there are less busses. Taken in consideration that this a village with only 200 habitants, the bus network is very good. It is easy to come and go in all directions, but you can't travel exactly when you want so you need some extra time. Be aware that outside summer you are stucked in the weekends.
